Winter Solstice Celebration – SUFFOLK

The winter solstice is on December 21st this year, which is a Thursday. Last year we met at Walberswick Beach to watch the sunrise followed by our usual bonfire in 8 Acre Woods in Rendham. This year, as Pam, our bonfire wizard, cannot be with us, Kate and I thought we could have a bonfire on the beach. We also felt called to do this at Sizewell this year. So we hope you can join us there. Breakfast again will be at the Two Magpies Bakery in Darsham.

Sizewell seems to epitomize much of what is going on in our world today, in that it is a beautiful beach and nature reserve of SSI, with a socking great power station plonked in the middle, with, as we know, another massive one on the way. I imagine most of us are dismayed at this.

So perhaps we can bring some Healing and Love to this place, as the Solstice sun bestows its blessing. I know it is too far for everyone to come at dawn, so perhaps you could do something in your locality in sync with us? That would be wonderful. So here's the plan:

Meeting on Sizewell Beach, Leiston, Suffolk on Thursday December 21st at 7.30 am. To light a bonfire and watch the sun rise. Then at approximately 9 - 9.30. (depending on weather) repairing to Two Magpies Bakery, Darsham for Breakfast (an 18 minutes drive).

There is a large Car Park at Sizewell and you can also park along the road.

Please bring with you some sticks or a log or two for the fire, that would be a great help!

Also, if inspired, a song , poem, drum etc.

Obviously we do have to be aware of others on the beach, who may want silence, but usually there is space for both.
