A day of teaching and experiential training in how to recognise and work with the inner ‘gatekeeper’ of our souls, our temples and our environment.
Sunday 25 September 2016
led by Peter & Sarah Dawkins
Warwick, England
The day will include teaching and training, beginning in the Masonic Lodge Room of Alderson House, Warwick, followed by visiting St Mary’s Church, pilgrimaging along the spine of the medieval town, and culminating the experience in Warwick Castle.
In Warwick Castle can be found Ethelfleda’s Mound, a Norman motte that incorporates the original AngloSaxon burgh (fortified mound) built by the warrior queen, Ethelfleda, the 'Lady of the Mercians' and daughter of King Alfred the Great, through whose help Alfred was able to defeat and negotiate peace with the Vikings. From this simple beginning the mighty stone castlepalace that we can see today was built—one of the key fortifications of England throughout the centuries.
In St Mary’s Church are to be found the magnificent tombs of three of the castle’s owners—Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, Ambrose Dudley, Earl of Warwick, and Sir Fulke Greville—plus that of Ambrose’s brother, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, and Robert’s wife, Lettice Knollys. Whilst Fulke Greville's enigmatic 17th century monument takes up most of the Chapter House, the glorious 15th century Beauchamp Chapel ranks as one of England’s greatest treasures.
