Spring Equinox – Troubadour Trail (SUFFOLK)

Wednesday 19 March

Spring Equinox Pilgrimage March 19th 2025
Celebrating the Festival of Promise with Song

In the cycle of the seasons, we have reached the Festival of Promise, when light and dark are in balance and in the spring flowers we see the promise of summer

This year we are combining our Gatekeeper Pilgrimage with the Troubadour Trail group, which has been singing in Churches on the Rockstone Ley for a few years now at the Celtic Quarter Day Festivals. Latterly we have been singing in Churches along the Suffolk coast, in areas which will be affected should National Grid’s infrastructure plans go ahead. Due to the cold weather and so many people being unwell in January, it seemed wise to wait for better weather and to combine the two events. If you don’t want to sing, there are plenty of interesting things to see in these churches, and your listening presence is just as valuable.

We shall start our pilgrimage in Snape at St John the Baptist Church, meeting there at 10am on 19th March

Then moving on to St Botolph’s Church in Iken, overlooking the Alde estuary Finally, we shall visit St Peter and Paul Church in Aldeburgh.

We can have lunch in Aldeburgh and afterwards walk along the shore to where cables would cut across the RSPB reserve, taking offshore energy to the substation at Friston. We can visit two hides in the marsh, which all winter has been visited by wild geese and duck.

It is appalling to think of the destruction National Grid’s plans will bring to our wild iconic coast, if they go ahead. Let’s bring our love and our voices to bring Light to the land here.

No previous singing experience is required

Song sheets will be provided for those who want to sing

We are having a practice of the songs on Sunday 9th March at 2.30.for those who wish, at my house Holly Bank, Sweffling IP17 2BL
