Autumn Equinox Pilgrimage to Ely

We will start by the waterfront and wind our way up the hill from the River Great Ouse towards Ely Cathedral, the “Ship of the Fens”.

Our Pilgrimage will include walking the LABYRINTH in the Cathedral.

Arrivals and parking

We will meet outside the Cutter Inn (postcode CB7 4BN). at 10.30am.

The Inn is a quarter of mile walk from the railway station. Nearby Car Parks are: The Ship Lane Car Park (Free, long stay, Toilets), it has pedestrian access to the riverside. Angel Drove & the Dock Pay & Display Parks (£3 for the day) are close to the Railway Station.

We will start our Pilgrimage at 11.00am at the curve of the river outside the Cutter Inn.

We will then wind our way uphill through the Jubilee Gardens and Ely Park , with its beautiful trees and splendid view of the Cathedral on the ‘Brow Chakra’ at the top of the hill. Weather permitting, we can pause for those who wish, to sing and do some simple yoga exercises with Satya, to prepare for the Labyrinth.

The Labyrinth is just inside the huge Cathedral west doors. Fortunately, it is not necessary to pay to enter the Cathedral to access it. We hope there will be time – depending on numbers – for most, if not all of us to walk the Labyrinth before lunch.

Lunch

The excellent Almonry Restaurant, right next to the Cathedral will be open, otherwise bring a picnic which can be eaten in the gardens.

After Lunch

There will be time to explore the Cathedral and the beautiful monastic buildings surrounding it (said to be the most intact in Europe) and for those who haven’t been able to do so, to walk the Labyrinth.

With luck we may be able to sing in the beautiful Lady Chapel

Entry to the Cathedral is £8 – more if you wish to visit the excellent Stained-Glass Museum or to take a Tower Tour. NB day tickets can be converted into an Annual Pass at no extra cost.

We will come together to close the pilgrimage at 4 pm
