Dear Gatekeepers
Welcome to the last newsletter of 2025. We have memories and reports from 2 of our most recent events – “Light in the Land” (2 November) and our highly acclaimed “Sacred Space” online conference (23rd November).
As we approach midwinter our full moon in Gemini, another supermoon, ruled by Mercury bringer of light, it launches us into the festive season. This month our meditation on the British Landscape Zodiac in Gemini, takes us to Swinside Stone Circle, in the Lake District and less visited than it’s more famous neighbour Castlerigg, but situated in the beautiful area of Black Combe Fell only 6 miles from the coast. Originally known as Sunkenkirk it consists of 50 stones. Dating from the bronze age it is one of the best preserved in the county.(https://www.visitlakedistrict.com/things-to-do/swinside-stone-circle-p1213211)

Sacred Space – online Gatekeeper Conference
Report by Jane Knight.
Recordings are available to buy here
Welcome:
Mike Newton, Gatekeeper Trust Treasurer, opened the meeting with a welcome to the 5th Gatekeeper Trust annual online conference entitled Sacred Space. Six speakers would be sharing their insights into Sacred Space. Participants were invited to send in questions, and they would be answered either during the afternoon or if the talk was recorded, the answers would be uploaded along with the presentations.
Mike then handed over to Angela Shaw, Gatekeeper Trust Chair, who lit the Gatekeeper candle and opened up the virtual sacred space for the conference. She spoke the customary greeting written by Beinsa Douno to the gatekeeper or spirit of the space: ‘Kindly luminous beings, guardians of this place, please grant us your hospitality, and may love bless you. ’Angela provided a slideshow for during the breaks of the Gatekeeper Trust’s collaboration with the Portland Quarry and Sculpture Trust.

Light in the Land Sunday 2nd November

SUSSEX: We joined Light in the Land from Ditching in Sussex, sitting in the sun outside the church with
our lanterns and then going into the church to discover finding this beautiful stained-glass window. It
was a beautiful experience from Sagittarius, connecting peacefully. Louise Coe

Winter Solstice – Sunday 21st December
This marks the shortest day of the year, and the moment the Northern Hemisphere is tilted furthest from the sun.
“The midwinter festival of Christmas focuses its celebration on the family and hearth (or heart) of the home: hence the lighting of the Yule-log in each hearth, as also the lighting of the Christmas tree in the heart of the house, both symbolising the birth or rebirth of light in the darkness (and in our hearts). Associated imagery is of the flame of love kindled in a dark cave, or of the Christ child born in a manger, in a cave.”
