This month our full moon meditation takes us to Sagittarius on the British Landscape Zodiac. As we welcome mid-summer this month, we can also reflect on our recent Gatekeeper event of Sound in the Land on the 4th of May.
Here in Sagittarius Angela Shaw tells us of her attunement near the source of the River Wey in Hampshire: “As I have been focusing a lot of time and energy on water testing on our local rivers (and the results have been alarming) I felt it important to send purifying sound vibrations and love to the waters as they start their journey past many challenges into the River Thames. I have been collaborating with the River Wey over the past 4 years.
Having seen the power of the sound bowl and human voice with Gail on the River Avon, it was a pleasure to see the water respond to Scarlett and myself. I sang Open my Heart “Oscall Mo Chroi “ (which we had been taught by Andrew Clark) and also Gia ma Grossina (an Irish chant from Sarah) to tie in with the Beltane turning of the Irish wheel. The river responded by first bubbling up then sending shimmering circles of light and ripples below the bridge on which we were standing. Of course, it may have been the wind and sun effects, yet it felt as if Nature was appreciating and returning the blessing.”

Full Moon and Summer Solstice

This full moon on the 11th June is the last Spring moon before the Summer Solstice on the 21st June, and will rise during dusk in the southeastern sky; drift across the southern sky, never getting too far above the southern horizon; and set in the southwest at dawn. This is because the summer solstice occurs when the sun is as high in the sky as it can get, and the nearest full moon is always the lowest of the year.

The Summer Solstice time was an event of tremendous importance to the proto-Druids of the New Stone Age, who built several magnificent megaliths aligned to the sunrise of this day. In southwest England, the thread of tradition connects the 5,000-year-old temple of Stonehenge with ritual activities through the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, and into modern times.
