This residential Pilgrims’ Weekend takes us into the Pisces area of the British Zodiac, to the magical location of Abbey Dore, in Herefordshire. Once a large and thriving Cistercian monastic establishment, the abbey was hit hard during the Reformation and the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Only part of the original abbey building remains as a place of worship, but the size and magnificence of the original establishment can be seen in the ruins of outbuildings and in the remnants of the foundations of the Abbey.

Located in the Golden Valley, Abbey Dore (d’Or?) is a pivotal point in many landscape alignments and patterns, both within the Black Mountains and reaching across the whole of Britain. On Saturday morning, David Furlong will tell us about the many geomantic connections of the Abbey to a multitude of sacred sites across the country. Fiona Hopes will outline the importance of the Abbey in a pattern of sacred sites that lie within the Black Mountains; in the afternoon we will visit some of these sites and enjoy their locations within this stunningly beautiful landscape.

On Saturday evening, John Collins will spin tales and poems, creating an evening of ‘bardicorum’ and fun.

Sunday morning will include reports of local activities in the past year, discussions and updates about the Wheel of Life Project, and a short pilgrimage over the suspension bridge to Sellack church.

Our base will be the retreat centre at Poulstone Court, (www.poulstone.com) in the Wye Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and an internationally important protected landscape that straddles the border between England and Wales. There are several lovely walks around the area, including one to a small suspension bridge and a tiny church on the other side of the River Wye. Poulstone Court is a large Victorian country house rebuilt around a 16th century core, with extensive gardens. The house is on three floors, with large rooms and stunning views throughout. Accommodation is mostly in shared rooms, with a few single rooms available (at a small extra cost). Food is deliciously vegetarian, home cooked, and all diets can be catered for with suitable notice.
