Firing Cupid’s Arrow

11/09/2016 - 18/09/2016

British-Landscape-Zodiac

A British Zodiac Pilgrimage

led by Peter and Sarah Dawkins

A cultural, historical, mythological and initiatic pilgrimage along the Sphinx-line of the British Zodiac— the line that also forms Cupid’s Arrow across the land.

Centred on High Cross where the Fosse Way and Watling Street (A5) cross, the British Zodiac is a landscape zodiac that covers most of England and Wales. Known to the mystery schools since the time of the Celts, this landscape temple has been used by the initiates in the Hermetic work of marrying heaven and earth. It is a stage upon which the mysteries can be performed. For instance, it is not by chance that the Shakespeare focus was placed at Stratford-upon-Avon, the town that approximates to the projection on earth of the bright star Deneb in the constellation of Cygnus the Swan. Neither is it by chance that the earlier mediaeval myth of Guy of Warwick was focused on Warwick, nor that the Merry Men of Robin Hood fame were dressed all in Lincoln green.

The Sphinx-line is the line that runs from the midpoint between the constellations of Leo and Virgo to the centre of the Zodiac. In the British Zodiac, Lincoln and Leicester are on this line. Extended, the Sphinx-line goes to the star Deneb—i.e. Stratford-upon-Avon. Deneb forms the apex of the celestial Masonic Compass. Deneb is in Cygnus, the Swan, emblem of the great Poet and Creator of the universe, who lays out the cosmos by means of the compass. Cygnus is in the Milky Way, which forms Cupid’s bow from one side of the Zodiac to the other. Cygnus represents the hand which holds the bow, and Deneb is where the arrow rests against the bow, supported on top of the hand. The arrow, pulled back and ready to fire, is represented by the Sphinx Line.

This pilgrimage will start in Lincoln and end in Bath, towards which the arrow flies. En route we will visit Leicester, King Lear’s city and a focus of the Bel and Black Anna myths, now the resting place of Richard III; High Cross, the centre of Celtic and Roman Britain; Stratford-upon-Avon, the Shakespeare focus; Warwick, the Guy of Warwick focus; Kenilworth Castle, a Rosicrucian focus; and finally Bath, a world heritage site containing the only natural hot spring spa in Britain and the focus of the Bladud myth. We will visit cathedrals (Lincoln, Leicester), special churches (Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath), and castles (Warwick, Kenilworth), and enjoy a special Wisdom of Shakespeare Day in Stratford-upon-Avon (including a performance of a Shakespeare play by the Royal Shakespeare Company in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre), and a spa experience in the famous Bath spa.

This 7-day pilgrimage will include talks, teachings and guidance by Peter Dawkins as well as group meetings and meditations, and will constitute an initiatic journey in which we shall, in effect, be performing a mystery on the stage of the British Zodiac. In turn, it will help us discover what lies behind the myths and legends, including their purpose, and lead us into the mystery of Britain as a sacred land—a land performing its unique role in the world of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

The whole pilgrimage is only open to 14 people total (including the two leaders, Peter and Sarah). The Wisdom of Shakespeare Day in Stratford-upon-Avon will be open to others to join in as well, but again the numbers will be limited. If you would like to be on this very special pilgrimage, or simply on the Wisdom of Shakespeare Day, it is advisable to book as soon as you can.
